5-Hour Energy Racing Lays Rubber with a New Site

Thursday, March 18, 2010
The 5-Hour Energy Racing team is rolling out its new site - a sleek, tweaked and ready rock machine that will keep racing fans' pistons pumping and exhausts roaring through the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Season with racing news, driver updates, race weekend photos, fan contests and big prizes.

5-Hour Energy Racing is now in its third Nationwide season with young pilot, Steve Wallace at the helm of the new #66 Toyota Camry, and the crew felt that it was only proper to complement the new car with a fresh, high-energy team site that will reward fans.

Competition is the bread and butter of NASCAR, from taking qualifying on the pole, to leading the first lap, winning the race and spinning the most donuts after victory. Since NASCAR fanatics enjoy competition just as much as the drivers, the 5-Hour Energy Racing team has a Contest page for racing buffs to become contenders and win big, Daytona big!

The Racing Scavenger Hunt Contest asks the high-octane visitors to search the 5-Hour Energy site for 15 race car tokens. Each token is accompanied by a code number and a code word that they keep track of on the contest entry form. When all the tokens are found, the contestant submits their form and is entered to win a one-year supply of 5-Hour Energy shots. The contest closes on April 30, 2010.

Like the races, personal endurance in the long haul will get them to victory lane, and the Weekly Race Results Contest is a determination of that stamina. Contestants will have to list the position that the #66 5-Hour Energy car finished in for every week through Oct. 23. If they have the staying power to last the 2010 season and the focus to find and enter the correct finishing positions, they'll be entered to win the End of the Season Race Package for Two to the final race in Miami, including airfare and hotel! The catch is that race results need to be entered within two weeks of the race completion, after which that race's contest entry period will be closed.

NASCAR addicts and 5-Hour Energy fans alike can stay up-to-date with Series and team highlights and news throughout the Nationwide race schedule as the Series travels across America for the next nine months. This is also a great place for contenders to keep ahead of the competition on race results and new contests.

Because pictures are worth 1,000 words and can take fans beyond a lengthy race article, the 5-Hour Energy Racing Gallery is updated weekly with race weekend images captured from the moment the 5-Hour Energy big rig parks in the paddock to the time it strolls on to the next asphalt battleground.

The new 5-Hour Energy Racing site is just another facet of the all-inclusive 5-Hour Energy experience the team gives fans, which includes a fan-focused Facebook page, conversational Twitter account and informational racing Blog.

Wallace Keeps the Show Going in Vegas

Monday, March 1, 2010
Steve Wallace gave the NASCAR Nationwide Series fans another Top-10 performance in the desert and kept the 2010 show going for 5-Hour Energy Racing and its new Toyota Camry.

The 22 year-old Nationwide Series dark horse battled a tight race car for most of the 300 miles at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before finishing in tenth place on the 1.5 mile oval. Wallace stated that the car had some big horsepower, but having slight issues in turning the car made it difficult to hold the competition off in the corners.

Wallace's persistent execution on the track has made him one of only four drivers who head into the Nationwide off-weeks with a top-ten finish. Following Saturday’s race, Wallace climbed one spot—to sixth—in the championship standings. He's currently a single point behind reigning Nationwide champion and Sprint Cup favorite Kyle Busch.

The Nationwide drivers will enjoy a few weeks off before heading to one of the fans' favorite tracks, the circus that is Bristol Motor Speedway. Last season when 5-Hour Energy returned to Bristol, the team chalked up an impressive top-10. We'll see if Wallace can stay alert and avoid what is sure to a rubber burning, brake smoking, metal crushing race day on March 20.

When it came to qualifying, Wallace got the 5-Hour Energy car within striking position for the big show with a 12-place grid position.

After the two hours and six minutes of racing, 12 lead changes ,and four cautions, Wallace had moved up to sixth place just behind pole-sitter Joey Logano.

5-Hour Energy Racing Starts 2010 Season with Top-10 at Daytona

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

5-Hour Energy Racing driver Steve Wallace took the new #66 Toyota Camry to a Top-10 finish in the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.

As the first race of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series, Wallace was confident in the team's switch from the Impala SS of 2009 to the new 5-Hour Energy-inspired Toyota Camry. Along with the new car for this season, the fresh 5-Hour Energy Racing crew chief, Scott McDougall, helped Wallace battle his way to a great finish to the first race of what will be an exciting series.

Showing that same perseverance form the 2009 season, Wallace maneuvered through the setbacks and brought Rusty Wallace Racing a tenth-place finish at the world's premier oval track. Together McDougall and Wallace kept the 5-Hour Energy car at the front of the pack after narrowly escaping three separate accidents and sustaining minor damage in one. Even with all the obstacles throughout the race, Wallace lead three laps, posted four fastest lap times and made 135 passes.

Wallace said after the race that the #66 5-Hour Energy Camry was a bit loose. This coupled with the damage made it difficult to grab that vital draft and make a run at the lead.

Wallace also noted that the 10th place finish, although a first for the team at Daytona, is just not enough. The team wrapped up the 2009 season with a strong and persistent performance and they hope to carry that forward through 2010 with more wins and more awards.

Wallace and the 5-Hour Energy crew are making the long haul from Florida to Auto Club Speedway in Southern California for the Stater Bros. 300 on February 20.

5-Hour Energy Racing Awaits the Green Flag on the 2010 Season

Monday, February 8, 2010
5-Hour Energy Racing is back on the grid and ready for more 200+ mph action for 2010 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

After the checkered flag dropped on the 2009 Nationwide season back in November, the 5-Hour Energy Racing crew has been working meticulously to get the new #66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry primed and ready to rock in the season starter at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 13 in the DRIVE4COPD 300.

Driver Steve Wallace, son of NASCAR great and team owner Rusty Wallace, will enter his third season with 5-Hour Energy Racing. In 2009 fans watched 22 year-old Wallace push the #66 to a 7th place championship finish. Wallace received a number of accolades during the '09 season including a "Most Improved Driver" award and being part of the only team to have both drivers finish in the Top-10.

This year 5-Hour Energy is bringing race fans an even more exclusive experience across multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter and the Energy Shot Blog during the races and throughout the week when the car is not on the track. In the spirit of competition, which you should know by now the 5-Hour Energy loves, the 5-Hour Energy Racing page will feature contests, big and small, throughout the season to put more 5-Hour Energy shots in our fans' pockets.

The NASCAR Nationwide series is a long one, February to December, with a race almost every weekend. The team travel, pit box setup, race-day preparations, car tuning and celebrations are more than exhausting for just one race, and these guys are doing it again and again. You can bet that the 5-Hour Energy Racing pit crew has a little something special to keep the alert and the #66 at the front.

Checkered Flag Drops on 5-Hour Energy Racing's 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Season

Monday, November 30, 2009
There has been a common theme to the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series for the 5-Hour Energy Racing team, consistency. Drivers Steve Wallace and Brendan Gaughan have climbed the ranks with persistence and steadiness when traffic was heavy and their cars were struggling. Their alert, dependable and sometimes edgy driving took both to celebrated top-10 championship series finishes, which was unmatched by another other series team, and broke personal records.

The 2009 Nationwide Series concluded at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 21. After 300 miles Wallace chalked up another great driving feat as he took his No. 66 Chevrolet Impala SS from a hopeful 15th position to a striking 8th-place finish, a performance unrivalled by any non-Cup Series driver. It was Wallace's second-straight top-10 finish, adding a fifth top-20 finish in his 5-Hour Energy machine for the 2009 season, and secured the 7th-place ranking in the final Nationwide standings.

Wallace's teammate and pilot of the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet, Gaughan, kept with the theme of the season and finished just one position back from where he began the race. Gaughan's consistency clutched the 9th-place position in the final season rankings and wrapped up the 2009 season with 12 top-20 finishes.

5-Hour Energy Racing has been more than impressed with the young and talented wheelmen and the affiliation with Rusty Wallace Racing. The two teams announced back in August plans to continue their partnership into the 2010 season, with 5-Hour Energy as the primary sponsor of Wallace's no. 66 car. RWR makes the change from Chevrolet to the new Toyota Camry, plenty of 5-Hour Energy shots will be right there, keeping the pit crew energized, the drivers focused, and the anticipation high for the green flag drop at Daytona International Speedway and opening of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship.

And Then There Were Two

Friday, November 13, 2009
With just two races left in the demanding and exciting 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, it's time to take a quick look at where the two drivers of 5-Hour Energy Racing are ranked and how the final push for points heading into Phoenix and Homestead will be supercharged with a few extra 5-Hour Energy shots.

All season Steve Wallace has combated shredded tires, crumpled sheet metal, mechanical failures and spinouts to prove that he is among the finest in the Nationwide Series. Piloting the No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet has had its ups and downs for Wallace, but his consistent driving, zeroed-in focus and physical endurance has earned him a solid seventh place in overall championship points before heading to Phoenix International Speedway for the Able Body Labor 200.

Making a stunning Rookie debut at Bristol Motor Speedway with a pole position qualifier, Brendan Gaughan has impressed the 5-Hour Energy Racing team in the No. 62 Extra Strength 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet throughout the season, continuing to push hard from ninth place in championship points. Gaughan has also been in close competition for the Rookie of the Year title with Justin Allgaier, Michael Annett, and Michael McDowell. Gaughan's noteworthy performances in this 2009 season include three Top-5 finishes and 8 Top-10 finishes, which he'll hope to add to first at Phoenix and then at the season-concluding Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 21.

5-Hour Energy Racing: Wallace Retakes Top-Five

Tuesday, September 29, 2009
A 12th place finish at the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway, pushed 5-Hour Energy Racing driver Steve Wallace back into the Top-5 for the NASCAR Nationwide Series points. Wallace showed his true prominence on the “Monster Mile” after suffering a late-race incident that left the No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet wounded and nearly cost him the race.

The Rusty Wallace Racing driver took over the 5th place ranking from Penske Racing’s Justin Allgaier, whom Wallace has been battling with for weeks, after Allgaier’s No. 12 ran out of fuel during a mid-race pit stop sequence. It was Wallace’s consistent runs noted throughout the season in Blog posts after Richmond, Daytona, and Bristol that have kept him in the Top-5 and in the run for a championship season.

Wallace’s teammate Brendan Gaughan is still seeing that streak of bad luck that has kept him continuing a grand rookie season in the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet. Gaughan had to start at the back of the pack after engine troubles during practice. But Gaughan would fight through the pack and misfortune of a blown tire to finish in 19th place. Gaughan lost only one position in the season standings and is currently in ninth.

The team is now headed to Kansas for a 300-mile run at Kansas Speedway. Both 5-Hour Energy drivers are ready to maintain and gain on their Top-10 and Top-5 standings when the green falls at 3:30 ET on Saturday Oct. 3.

5-Hour Energy Racing Ready for Top-Five Charge After Richmond

Monday, September 14, 2009

Consistency has been key for the 5-Hour Energy Racing team in the 2009 season, and much like the tortoise, a consistent drive from start to finish will prove better than being great one week and sloppy the next. For Steve Wallace and his No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet, a top-10 finish at Richmond International Raceway has pushed him into contention for a NASCAR Nationwide Series top-five championship finish.

Wallace started at the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 in 29th place, but would dash forward and make 39 green flag passes before the checkered fell. On final lap, Wallace charged past the Red Bull car and crossed the line in ninth place, which chalked up a third-straight 11th or better finish for 5-Hour Energy racing and pushed Wallace into sixth place for overall series points.

Sitting just two championship positions behind the No. 66 5-Hour Energy car is Wallace’s teammate Brendan Gaughan, pilot of the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet. Gaughan has impressed his Rusty Wallace Racing team as the seasons second highest ranking rookie, and has plenty of opportunities to push forward with 5-Hour consistency to a memorable first year.

The 5-Hour Energy Drivers Prepare to Dodge the Wrecks Once Again at Bristol

Friday, August 21, 2009
It was way back on March 21 when 5-Hour Energy returned to NASCAR and stopped off at the season’s most popular half-mile oval Bristol Motor Speedway. Just five months and twenty races later, the team is back and ready to repeat a performance that included a pole position start from Brendan Gaughan and top-10 finish from Steve Wallace for the Food City 250.

Coming off a top-15 performance at Michigan International Speedway the CARFAX 250, Wallace hopes to nail down the steering problems he wrestled with on his no. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet. He remains in strong competition for the Nationwide Series championship at sixth in overall points and has been consistent with ill-handling cars at some of the toughest tracks. Wallace has quickly become known as one of the series’ short track aces and is a favorite heading to Thunder Valley.

Like his teammate, Brendan Gaughan and the no. 62 Extra Strength 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet have been on track to a successful rookie season with Rusty Wallace Racing. Gaughan also battled through a handling condition at Michigan and then suffered a cut left front tire which would push him back to 29th-place finish. Although it was a tough day for Gaughan, he’s heading to the crash-happy oval this weekend in the top-10 for season standings.

It’s going to be an exciting event under the lights of Bristol on Friday Aug. 21. When Thunder Valley is mentioned among race fans, there is just one thought – crashes. For the race teams, trying not to be involved in the wrecks is one thing, winning the race is another and the 5-Hour Energy drivers have the alert and focused advantage to take the checkered.

Wallace and Rookie Gaughan Still in Top Ten Heading to New Hampshire

Wednesday, June 24, 2009
The drivers of 5-Hour Energy Racing wrapped up a weekend of consistent and persistent driving to maintain their rankings and the charge forward to the championship.

5-Hour Energy Racing rookie Brendan Gaughan entered the Milwaukee Mile with solid footing in a top-10 position for the NASCAR Nationwide series on June 20, and his consistency in the NorthernTool.com 250 pulled in a top-15 finish that kept him in the rankings to pull in a championship season.

Gaughan started the night out strong from the third position and would take the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet to the front and had a battle for the lead. As the 250 laps counted down Gaughan faced handling issues and slipped back. After dropping to 19th, Gaughan fought his way back through the pack to finish 13th and maintain his ranking in the championship standings just one point behind Mike Bliss and 6th place.

His 5-Hour Energy Racing teammate Steve Wallace started in 28th and made his way into the top-10 in fewer than 90 laps. A late race battle with a lapped car almost took Wallace out of the race, but the young gun steered the No. 66 Chevrolet to a 6th place finish and earned the Mobile 1 Command Performance Drive of the Race Award. Wallace’s commanding performance this weekend in West Allis, Wis. kept him in the 10th position for the NASCAR Nationwide championship run and impressed the fans and sponsors just like every weekend.

5-Hour Energy Cars Climb the Ranks in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship

Friday, June 19, 2009
The cars of 5-Hour Energy Racing have thundered their way up the rankings of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and earned some impressive driver awards along the way.

After a 7th place finish in the Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway on June 6, 5-Hour Energy driver Steve Wallace took home the Featherlite “Most Improved Driver” award. The wheelman of the No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet crossed the line 22 places better than the week prior at Dover and moved up to the 10th position in the championship points standings.

This is the second season Wallace has been a pilot for the 5-Hour Energy team. Last year fans watched the young gun capture his first career top-5 and top-10 finishes with a little added boost from his preferred pre-race beverage.

In the No. 62 Extra Strength 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet, rookie Brendan Gaughan finished in second place in the CarQuest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 23. More recently Gaughan sealed a fourth place finish in the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway. It was only his fourth race in the Nationwide Series and he impressed the crowd as the highest finishing rookie in the June 13 race. Re-Energized: Steve Wallace & Team 5-Hour Energy Rally for Top-Ten Finish in Bristol

Monday, March 23, 2009

BRISTOL, TN (March 22, 2009) - Energy was the name of the game for Steve Wallace and his No. 66 5-Hour Energy Rusty Wallace Racing team in Saturday afternoon's NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway. After a lackluster 30th place qualifying effort, Steve and his 5-Hour team did not disappoint, gaining 23 spots to record a seventh-place finish.

Despite his qualifying effort, Wallace was confident in his Chevrolet Impala SS heading into Saturday's race and it showed. The third-generation driver moved from 30th place into the top-15 by lap 60.

Wallace's 5-Hour Energy machine ultimately stormed past several additional cars—including the No. 99 Red Bull entry—and into the top-ten by lap 180.

As the race entered its final 100 laps, Wallace would prove not to be satisfied with the 10th spot. The young wheelman quickly mounted another charge forward, ultimately gaining three additional spots to move into the seventh position, where he would ultimately finish.

Wallace's Bristol finish marked his second straight top-ten at Bristol and his second top-ten in his last three Nationwide Series starts overall. With this effort, Wallace was one of the biggest movers in the Nationwide Series driver standings, jumping 11 spots to 17th.

Meanwhile, the race went in almost opposite fashion for Wallace's teammate, Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet).

After starting the race from the pole position, Gaughan experienced a tire failure early in the event, which would ultimately force the No. 62 to pit road under green flag conditions. Despite losing three laps and falling as low as 36th position after the green flag stop, Gaughan would consistently knock out lap times as quick as most of the leaders.

Gaughan's perseverance proved to pay off, as over the remainder of the event, the No. 62 team would gain 15 positions, to finish in the 21st position. This perseverance enabled Gaughan to maintain the fourth position in the Nationwide Series driver standings.

Following an off-week for the Nationwide Series, the next event for Rusty Wallace Racing is the April 4th event at Texas Motor Speedway.
