Tuesday, November 10, 2009
5-Hour Energy would like to honor those who have served and are currently fighting for our country on Veterans Day. Since 2007, 5-Hour Energy has continued supporting troops through Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is an effort to support our nation’s soldiers and boost morale with care packages containing letters of appreciation, entertainment items, hygiene products and food items like 5-Hour Energy shots.

5-Hour Energy is also proud to have Staff Sgt. Case of the United States Army as one of our Featured Fans. Staff Sgt. The team at 5-Hour Energy continually recognizes the sacrifices made by our forces to maintain a nation of solidarity and freedom. We just wanted to take this special day to say it again.

5-Hour Energy Introduces Newest Featured Fan and Winner of a One-Year Supply of Energy Shots

Friday, November 6, 2009

The 5-Hour Energy team is proud to introduce Kathryn Springer of Paris, Texas as the brand’s newest Featured Fan and winner of the team’s biggest prize to-date, a one-year supply of her favorite 5-Hour Energy shots. Kathryn is a mother of one, working hard to keep her family afloat in today’s downed economics, but also, with a little help from 5-Hour Energy, she able to manage in a 20-hour college load and enjoy time with her family.

As with previous Featured Fan winners, we had the 5-Hour Energy Guy interview the recent addition to the 5-Hour Energy VIP list.

Energy Guy:
Kathryn, when did you start taking 5-Hour Energy shots?

Kathryn:
I had my first shot in 2008. I started to notice that when the end of the week crept up and it was about midway through my day, I ran out of energy to accomplish the things I needed to do.

Energy Guy:
What made you start taking 5-Hour Energy shots?

Kathryn:
I began college and needed a little extra lift for early morning classes, which most college students can agree to. But I’m also working full time and have a family to spend time with.

Energy Guy:
Before you became a fan of 5-Hour Energy, were there any other energy drinks or products that you used?

Kathryn:
Just about everything on the market!

Energy Guy:
What did you first like about 5-Hour Energy shots?

Kathryn:
It was fast acting, and I was able to focus more on the tasks at hand.

Energy Guy:
Between your personal schedule, your family schedules and everything else that comes with being a working adult, when during the day do you take 5-Hour Energy shots?

Kathryn:
Whenever I need a boost, which is usually before those a.m. classes. After my first shot of 5-Hour Energy I am more alert and focused without the dreaded "crash" I have had from some of the other energy drinks on the market.

Energy Guy:
In what ways have 5-Hour Energy shots improved your life?

Kathryn:
Since using 5-Hour Energy I have that boost to do the daily chores and beyond. What’s even better is that my grades have improved from a B to an A because I’m able to better concentrate when I study. I recommend 5-Hour Energy to my friends when I realize they are running out of steam too. They love not having the crash either. This is, without a doubt, the best product on the market

The 5-Hour Energy 100m Dash Flash game put contestants in control of the 5-Hour Energy Guy as he sprinted to the finish line. Congratulations to 5-Hour Energy 100m Dash winners!
  • First Place – Mahrlo Amposta of San Diego, CA
  • Second Place – Bryant Nguyen of El Cajon, CA
  • Third Place – Matt Olsen of San Diego, CA

The 5-Hour Energy Scavenger Hunt sent fans on a search for special 5-Hour tokens across the Fan Zone, MySpace profile and Twitter page. When a token was spotted the contestant put the code in the contest form and then submitted their findings to the 5-Hour team. Congratulations to the 5-Hour Energy Scavenger Hunt winners!
  • First Place – Mark Adams of North Wilkesboro, NC

Blog Action Day & 5-Hour Energy

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

5-Hour Energy is proud to be participating in this year's Blog Action Day. The focus of the 2009 blogging event is Climate Change. Here at 5-Hour Energy, we all understand the need to sustain and improve the environment for future generations. We've put together a list of great ways you can make this world a better place too. So what are you waiting for? Grab some friends, and get working!

  • Look into the energy efficient settings on your home appliances. Wash your clothes in cool water. Keep the heated dry function turned off on your dishwasher. Need new appliances? Look into the most energy efficient products out there.
  • Switch to tap water. Invest in a reusable bottle and never pay for water again! Worried about the water quality? Check out a filtration system to purify the water and keep your new water bottle full!
  • Get a reusable shopping bag. Paper or Plastic? How about neither! Invest in a reusable shopping bag, and you'll cut back on a ton of waste every year!
  • Check your thermostat. Keeping your space cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer by just a few degrees will help your energy bills and the environment.
  • Skip the gym, and get outside! Treadmills, elliptical and other gym equipment uses electricity, take a day to play instead, go for a run outside, organize a game of basketball, or just take a hike and explore your area!
  • Unplug appliances when you're not using them. Vampires may be hot right now, but wasting vampire energy is not.
  • Install a showerhead that puts out a lower flow of water. It's a cheap fix that will save you money in the long run on your water and power bills.
  • Turn off your computers at night. You're not using it, why waste the energy?
  • Go through your closet. Find clothes you just don't wear anymore? Donate them! You'll be giving to someone in need, and cutting down on waste.
  • Buy your food as locally as possible, you'll be supporting your friends and neighbors, getting the freshest food possible, and you'll be cutting down on the needless waste produced by shipping foods all over.
  • Harvest that water! Look into rainwater harvesting. Catch water next time it rains so you can use it to water your plants, lawn or garden!
  • Go to the library. Check out a book you've been thinking of buying, you'll be saving money and trees!
  • Make your own cleaning supplies. Your home and the earth will thank you for not using the toxic chemicals some store bought products contain.
  • Plant a garden. You can do it in your own kitchen! Plant some spices and herbs, even some fruits and vegetables, you'll have the freshest ingredients and you'll be able to feel good about where they came from.
  • Turn off the lights. Do you really need the lights on all the time? Cutting back on your light use is really a bright idea.
  • Do the dishes. Quit using paper plates or plastic silverware to avoid doing the dishes all the time. All that paper waste isn't good for the environment.
  • Find your community's recycling centers, and go there often! Recycling is a basic step in fighting our carbon footprint.

Some of the ideas listed above were inspired by the following resources. These Web sites offer even more ways to go green.

You don’t have to drastically change your life to live a little greener. Adopting one or two green habits into your daily routine each month will have a positive impact on the environment. It's up to us to do the right thing, so what are you going to do about it?

5-Hour Energy Featured Fan: Staff Sergeant Case

Monday, September 28, 2009

Staff Sergeant Travis Case impressed the Featured Fan contest judges with his enthusiasm for his duties as a soldier in the United States Army, as a husband and as a father. Since 2007 5-Hour Energy has been keeping our nation’s soldiers alert and focused on the frontlines by donating shots for care packages from Operation Gratitude.

The 5-Hour Energy Guy thought it was only appropriate to follow Patriot Day with a Featured Fan whose sacrifice has benefited us all.

Energy Guy:
Staff Sgt. Case, you continually say that “5-Hour Energy is the only shot that will get you to the mountaintop every time.” How long have you been slamming and sipping 5-Hour Energy shots to scale the mountains and challenges in your life?

Staff Sgt. Case:

I first tried 5-Hour Energy about a year and a half ago and immediately trusted the product and its results.

Energy Guy:
So before a year and a half ago did you use any other energy drinks or products?

Staff Sgt. Case:
I tried and still try all energy shots if I feel they are worthy to measuring up against 5-Hour Energy. I feel they work a little, but fall short of the long-range benefits of the 5-Hour Energy shots.

Energy Guy:
What did you first like about 5-Hour Energy shots?

Staff Sgt. Case:
5-Hour just made me feel as if I could accomplish anything. Whenever I needed to bring my A-game, I also brought my 5-Hour.

Energy Guy:
Of all the 5-Hour Energy shots, which is your favorite?

Staff Sgt. Case:

I buy a 24-pack of Extra Strength once per month. I like orange, lemon-lime, and Extra Strength berry equally well. I see orange selling really well at retail locations such as Sheetz.

Energy Guy:

In what ways have 5-Hour Energy shots improved your life?

Staff Sgt. Case:

5-Hour Energy plays a huge role in my life and helps me stay on the cutting edge at all times. It gives me an enormous edge when I conduct my duties as a soldier, husband and father. My wife knows that it is my favorite amenity and she always surprises me with two-pack. I would love to by stock in it!

Energy Guy:
The team at 5-Hour Energy takes pride in supporting you and your fellow soldiers. We hope that everyone can reach the mountain tops in their lives with a little help of 5-Hour Energy!

5-Hour Energy's Hardest Working Fire Station Contest

Friday, September 25, 2009

5-Hour Energy is paying tribute to the fire fighters of America and the sacrifice they make each and every day with its “Hardest Working Fire Station in America” contest, which ends on September 30.

You have less than a week to enter, and we know you can respond to this call quickly. To earn your fire station the title of “Hardest Working” we need you to showcase how your crew is one of the best in America in just 250 words or less.

Much like the Firefighter Combat Challenge, which test the physical skills of our nation’s heroes in red trucks, this 5-Hour Energy contest will award the toughest, most-rugged, fire station with 555 bottles of 5-Hour Energy shots to keep them alert and focused during the exhausting calls and long nights.

The winner will be chosen by the 5-Hour Energy team, so in a PG-13 or better manner, tell us about the long nights on call and the exhaustion faced when the alarm rings. More importantly, you also need to present something that sets you apart from all the other municipal and volunteer ladders that are entering.

Again, the contest will be extinguished on September 30, so slide on down to the 5-Hour Energy Fire Station contest page for more details and to submit your entry ASAP. After your entry is in try your skills at all the other 5-Hour contests like the 5-Hour Energy 100m Dash and Scavenger Hunt to win more 5-Hour Energy shots.

5-Hour Energy Racing Ready for Top-Five Charge After Richmond

Monday, September 14, 2009

Consistency has been key for the 5-Hour Energy Racing team in the 2009 season, and much like the tortoise, a consistent drive from start to finish will prove better than being great one week and sloppy the next. For Steve Wallace and his No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet, a top-10 finish at Richmond International Raceway has pushed him into contention for a NASCAR Nationwide Series top-five championship finish.

Wallace started at the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 in 29th place, but would dash forward and make 39 green flag passes before the checkered fell. On final lap, Wallace charged past the Red Bull car and crossed the line in ninth place, which chalked up a third-straight 11th or better finish for 5-Hour Energy racing and pushed Wallace into sixth place for overall series points.

Sitting just two championship positions behind the No. 66 5-Hour Energy car is Wallace’s teammate Brendan Gaughan, pilot of the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet. Gaughan has impressed his Rusty Wallace Racing team as the seasons second highest ranking rookie, and has plenty of opportunities to push forward with 5-Hour consistency to a memorable first year.

Taxes on Sugary Drinks and Junk Food Are Expanding

Tuesday, September 8, 2009
It’s been called the "obesity tax", "junk food tax", and "fat tax", and even more states are now tacking on a little extra levy on unhealthy food and beverages to slim the waistlines of Americans and try to expand skinny state budgets during economic strains.

We first mentioned the obesity tax in our February post, "Sugary Beverages May Carry 'Obesity Tax'", which told about a 15% tax being worked out for the state of New York and then again in May when it was mentioned that U.S. Senate was drafting a solution to increasing healthcare costs which included a nationwide "fat tax." Today, the idea to tax unhealthy foods and beverages is gaining steam and more states are adopting it, nearly three dozen to be exact.

On Sept. 1, Illinois became the newest state to add a tax on foods deemed as "unhealthy choices." The state’s new taxes vary by type of food and by location. For example, a sugary energy drink will be taxed 6.25% across the state, but beverages classified as soft drinks in Chicago will carry a tax of 14.25%.

Across the nation backers of the "obesity tax" suggest that it could help offset the estimated $147 billion cost of treating this health epidemic, while critics argue that the route a healthy nation is education, exercise and balanced diets. Any way you look at it, our nation needs to make better choices when it comes to food and drink.

Every week more than 4 million people choose 5-Hour Energy shots instead the sugar-packed alternatives. With zero sugar and only 4 calories, 5-Hour gives you the energy you need void of fillers and void of the "obesity tax."

5-Hour Energy Featured Fan: Danelle Mackey

Thursday, September 3, 2009
With the current 5-Hour Energy campaign asking men to “Release Their Inner Superman” and prove that they can be a 5-Hour Man, our 5-Hour Energy Guy wanted to continue inviting in those female fans who impressed him the most and who proved that the 2 oz. energy shots are in the purses and handbags of women across America.

Last week the Energy Guy met Crystal Romain, a.k.a. Ivonna B. Vicious, who was your typical girl by day and bow-dropping, hair-pulling villain on skates by night – a transformation made possible with 5-Hour Energy shots. But this week he has a woman who uses 5-Hour Energy to balance the hectic schedules of school, work and motherhood.

Energy Guy:
Danelle, what made you start taking 5-Hour Energy shots?

Danelle:
My husband started drinking them first and said I should try it when we moved our family from Phoenix, AZ to Little Rock, AR. It was a 20-hour drive, I've been drinking them ever since.

Energy Guy:
We have had fans writing in that they have been drinking 5-Hour Energy since they hit the shelves in 2004. About how long have you been getting that boost from 5-Hour Energy shots?

Danelle:
Not nearly that long, but I've been drinking 5-hour Energy for almost a year.

Energy Guy:
Before you became a fan of 5-Hour Energy, were there any other energy drinks or products that you used?

Danelle:
I've tried Red Bull....and did not like it!

Energy Guy:
What did you first like about 5-Hour Energy shots?

Danelle:
I like the actual boost of energy I got.

Energy Guy:
You’re a mom, who went back to school to become a medical assistant and is working full time. Between your schedule, your kids’ schedules and everything else that comes with being working adult, when during the day do you take 5-Hour Energy shots to give you that boost?

Danelle:
When I was in school it was at lunch time, to keep me moving through second half of the day, but now it’s every morning when everyone else is sipping coffee.

Energy Guy:
In what ways have 5-Hour Energy shots improved your life?

Danelle:
Since I get that boost of energy, I actually have the energy to get up and out with my kids, with more energy I'm also in a better mood. Overall, it helps me be a better mom!

Energy Guy:
Well we couldn’t be happier than to hear that 5-Hour Energy has helped this mom reach her goals and continue to be a great mother.

5-Hour Energy Featured Fan: Crystal Romain

Friday, August 28, 2009
It’s been a few weeks since the 5-Hour Energy Guy met up with a winner of the 5-Hour Energy Featured Fan Contest, and it just wouldn’t be right without shining some light on those women that rep 5-Hour the best.

Crystal says that she’s your average girl, working the typical 8-5 Monday through Friday. On the surface she definitely fits the part, but you wouldn’t think that this girl has a dark side. But three nights a week she straps on some fighting gear and becomes Ivanna B. Vicious, a menacing member of the New Hampshire roller derby team Skate Free or Die.

Energy Guy:
Crystal, you’re definitely one of our most unique Featured Fans.
How long have you been taking 5-Hour Energy shots?

Crystal:

I have been taking the shots for about four months now.

Energy Guy:
What made you start taking 5-Hour Energy shots?

Crystal:
I hated the shaky feeling other energy drinks gave me and really wanted something to boast my energy without side effects.

Energy Guy:

What did you first like about 5-Hour Energy shots?

Crystal:
I felt like I just had extra energy. Plain and simple. No jitters, no crash, no queasy feeling. Just good ol' plain energy.

Energy Guy:
You’re a very active girl, working full-time and then skating three nights a week. You’ve got to be drained of energy by the end of all this. When do you take 5-Hour Energy shots? Early in the morning, mid-day, evening?

Crystal:
I take them at 6 p.m. which is right before roller derby practice. Following a day working the 8-5 as Crystal, I get that needed energy to become Ivanna B. Vicious!

Energy Guy:

Did you try other energy boosting beverages before becoming a faithful 5-Hour fan?

Crystal:

Yes, several and they don't live up to 5-Hour Energy.

Energy Guy:
In what ways have 5-Hour Energy shots improved your life?

Crystal:
I can push myself harder in practice when I probably would be on the sidelines because of a long day at work. It helps me with that extra boost to do five more push-ups or one more lap around the rink.

Energy Guy:
Crystal, we love that 5-Hour helps you to turn into a fearless fighter on skates. Keep your dukes up and your competition down!

Do You Have What It Takes To Be a 5-Hour Man?

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Back in July our team challenged you to MAXIMize your energy at the gym, library and office. Now we are challenging our fans and Men’s Fitness magazine readers to try to become a 5-Hour Man.

This new contest will take you to the 5-Hour Energy’s Men’s Fitness page where you can take on more games and quizzes. The first step in the search is finding out your as a 5-Hour Energy Man. There are a number of types, from the Life of the Party character to Don Juan/Casanova romantic, and the Which 5-Hour Man Are You? profiler will help you find your best fit.

The second phase is proving that a title of 5-Hour Energy Man can be held. The first challenge tests your athletic ability. The 5-Hour Energy 100m Dash puts you in control of the 5-Hour Energy Guy as he sprints to the finish line. Seems simple enough, right? But to break the record times they’re going to need an extra boost without the crash that only 5-Hour Energy shots have. Snatch a 5-Hour energy shot and you’ll be at full-stride, stumble on a sugary canned energy drink and you’ll lag behind the competition.

The second challenge measures the cognitive realm of these wannabe 5-Hour Energy Men. The 5-Hour Energy Scavenger Hunt will take you through the 5-Hour Energy Web site in search of the special tokens and hidden codes. As a contestant you will need a keen eye and strong problem-solving ability to beat this one as tokens are everywhere, including other uncommon places the 5-Hour Energy Guy hangs out like Twitter. Winners will take home up to a year’s supply of 5-Hour Energy shots.

The last step is entering to become the newest 5-Hour Featured Fan. All that’s needed is a photo and story of 400 words or less that showcases why a challenger is one of 5-Hour Energy's biggest fans and what makes you a 5-Hour Energy Man. The chosen one will be added to the 5-Hour Energy A-list of fans, becoming the freshest face of their favorite energy booster, and will be twisting the caps of from 5-Hour Energy shots everyday for a year.

The contest ends on Oct. 16, so you've got time to practice the challenges and become the optimal 5-Hour Energy Man, with your face on the Web site and your closet filled with 5-Hour Energy.

Burning Off Your Energy Drink

Monday, August 24, 2009
Back in April of this year the post “Study Confirms that Caffeine Can Ease the Pain of Your Workout” looked at the results of a University of Illinois test that gave reasoning as to why gym rats walk around with their Java or energy drinks during a workout. We showed you that the caffeine-workout connection was not just for the boost to help push the limits of your workout; it was also for the healing affects that many overlooked.

That study clearly suggested a benefit between caffeine and working out. But what we didn’t emphasize enough was the importance of choosing a caffeine source that wouldn’t hinder the results of your workout with excess sugar and calories, large amounts of carbonated liquid, and all the extras that are counterproductive towards your fitness goals.

We followed in May with the post “Round 1: Energy Drink Comparison: Shot vs. Can – Compare Ingredients” that scrutinized the nutritional facts of a 2 oz. 5-Hour Energy shot and a 16 oz. canned energy drink. If you didn’t read it, the post simply showed you that it’s more beneficial to choose 5-Hour over canned energy drinks. But how much time and effort are required to burn the calories if you chose a canned energy drink over 5-Hour Energy shot?

Body weight is all about the amount of calories we take in minus that which we burn. So when you compare the four calories in a 5-Hour Energy shot to the 100 or 200 in the canned option, it’s clearly going to take more time and effort to use up the competitors beverage. How long to burn off that energy drink? The chart below shows the time needed to burn these calories across various exercises based on what the average person can expect.

HealthStatus.com Calories Burned Estimator: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

Few of us get paid to spend time in the gym and most of us use the excuse that we don’t have enough time to make it there. You’ve heard the saying “time is money.” With the sugar energy drinks out there you’re throwing away time, money, fitness achievements and more. With 5-Hour Energy you’re just getting a better boost for your workout, or after your workout and saving time that can be used outside of the gym.

Delicate sensibilities offended, English language tortured in wake of 5-Hour Energy ad campaign

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Reaction to 5-Hour Energy’s latest TV ad has revealed the fragile egos and atrocious lack of communication skills in some skateboarders.

“Your last commercial i saw about your product five hour energy had me appauled. Your so jugdmental in it and ill will tell everyone i know to never purchase your product including me.”

The ad that has some skateboarders trying to construct sentences, for what appears to be the first time, involves two contrasting characters. On the left stands a young man dressed in jeans, hooded sweatshirt and sideways cap holding a skateboard and a can of Monster Energy drink. The other is a slightly older man dressed in business casual attire and holding a bottle of 5-Hour Energy. The two have a short debate about the attributes of their favorite energy drink. The bit of dialog that has touched a nerve among skaters goes like this:

“5-Hour Energy does it without the sugar. You’ll go from groggy to get it done.”

“You mean, like work?”

“Yeah, you should try it some time. 5-Hour Energy. Hours of energy now. No crash later.”

“Come on, it’s funny,” said 5-Hour Energy’s Energy Guy. “Everyone gets teased some time. It’s the basis of almost all humor. Just look at The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. They poke fun at everyone, even the President. I mean, if the President of the United States isn’t above a little ribbing, neither are skateboarders.” He went on to emphasize, “We portray one single skate slacker and look what happens. Are there no slackers among skateboarders? Zero? Nada? Whatever.”

But some skateboarders believe the portrayal of one slacker with a skateboard is an attack on all skaters: “Thanks for making skateboarders look like [bleep] idiots to the people of america.. your depiction of skateboarders was so sterotypical and plain [bleep] stupid. To say that we are incapable of working? or saying that we dont know what the [bleep] to do if were handed the "mature" energy drink, we'd just [bleep] our pants or something cuz we just appearantly dont know anything.”

According to Linda Lange, president of PETE (People for the Ethical Treatment of English), the real victim in all of this is English language and grammar. According to a statement released by PETE the group is “extremely concerned ” about the quality of writing in the skateboarder’s complaint e-mails and that the language is being “twisted beyond recognition” by people who “are way out of their league in front of a keyboard.”

“We’ve received about a dozen or so complaints about the ad,” said the Energy Guy. “It bothers me that these people take themselves so seriously. I think skateboarding is cool. It takes a lot of talent and courage to perform well in that sport. I just wish some skateboarders weren’t such whiners.”

Energy Drink Comparison: Shot v. Canned – Round 3

Monday, June 29, 2009
Round 3: Cost

For most of us cost is the greatest determining factor of a purchasing decision. Getting more "bang for your buck" is how we tend to shop, and striving to find what we want at the lowest price is not a choice, but a necessity. No one wants to waste money on something that doesn’t deliver, so we scrutinize and analyze packaging, portions, promises and performance of the things consume and use daily.

Round 3 of the Energy Drink Comparison analyzes what a 5-Hour Energy shot and a competing canned energy drink will cost you for the year - not just in dollars and cents, but in loss of production due to the crash that follows some energy drink consumption.

Most people need a morning stimulant to get their day rolling. Whether it is tea, coffee or an energy drink, starting the morning routine without something extra is unthinkable. Being such an important factor to getting our lives back in gear after the slumber, some may overlook how it’s hitting the pocket book.

A fair price for a 16 oz. energy drink is around $2.50 and for the 5-Hour Energy shot it’s roughly $3.00. Clearly a year’s worth of canned energy drinks will be expensive, but not as expensive as the 5-Hour Energy shot. Now before dollar signs become the final verdict over everything else that was mentioned in Round 1: Comparing Ingredients or Round 2: Convenience and Portability, consider the hit to your production time that the crash from a canned energy drink can deliver. That’s not the case with the 5-Hour Energy shot. The ingredients in a 5-Hour Energy shot are simple, and they won’t bog you down. In fact, everything in 5-Hour Energy is found in every day food or already in our bodies. If you spend $2.50 on a canned energy drink and it doesn’t deliver, you’re just wasting money, but when you slam a slightly more expensive 5-Hour Energy shot and it works just like it’s advertised, every time, then it’s worth every penny. You can’t put a price on feeling bright and alert.

Wallace and Rookie Gaughan Still in Top Ten Heading to New Hampshire

Wednesday, June 24, 2009
The drivers of 5-Hour Energy Racing wrapped up a weekend of consistent and persistent driving to maintain their rankings and the charge forward to the championship.

5-Hour Energy Racing rookie Brendan Gaughan entered the Milwaukee Mile with solid footing in a top-10 position for the NASCAR Nationwide series on June 20, and his consistency in the NorthernTool.com 250 pulled in a top-15 finish that kept him in the rankings to pull in a championship season.

Gaughan started the night out strong from the third position and would take the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet to the front and had a battle for the lead. As the 250 laps counted down Gaughan faced handling issues and slipped back. After dropping to 19th, Gaughan fought his way back through the pack to finish 13th and maintain his ranking in the championship standings just one point behind Mike Bliss and 6th place.

His 5-Hour Energy Racing teammate Steve Wallace started in 28th and made his way into the top-10 in fewer than 90 laps. A late race battle with a lapped car almost took Wallace out of the race, but the young gun steered the No. 66 Chevrolet to a 6th place finish and earned the Mobile 1 Command Performance Drive of the Race Award. Wallace’s commanding performance this weekend in West Allis, Wis. kept him in the 10th position for the NASCAR Nationwide championship run and impressed the fans and sponsors just like every weekend.

5-Hour Energy Cars Climb the Ranks in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship

Friday, June 19, 2009
The cars of 5-Hour Energy Racing have thundered their way up the rankings of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and earned some impressive driver awards along the way.

After a 7th place finish in the Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway on June 6, 5-Hour Energy driver Steve Wallace took home the Featherlite “Most Improved Driver” award. The wheelman of the No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet crossed the line 22 places better than the week prior at Dover and moved up to the 10th position in the championship points standings.

This is the second season Wallace has been a pilot for the 5-Hour Energy team. Last year fans watched the young gun capture his first career top-5 and top-10 finishes with a little added boost from his preferred pre-race beverage.

In the No. 62 Extra Strength 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet, rookie Brendan Gaughan finished in second place in the CarQuest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 23. More recently Gaughan sealed a fourth place finish in the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway. It was only his fourth race in the Nationwide Series and he impressed the crowd as the highest finishing rookie in the June 13 race. Gaughan stands solid in 7th place for the championship and has ample races left to make it to the top with a little help from a shot of Extra Strength 5-Hour Energy.

Energy Drink Comparison: Shot v. Canned – Round 2

Friday, June 12, 2009
Round 2: Convenience and Portability

To stay competitive in this dwindling workforce you have to be constantly on the move. It doesn’t matter if it’s the early morning walk with the dog, the loading and unloading of the kids in and out of the van, or the pacing from the printer to your desk and back just to realize the file was never sent. You’re conscience that productivity is a result of time and effort, the former you don’t have enough of and the latter you strive to keep at full tilt.

You don’t have time to fumble with inconveniences, which also take effort away from bigger things. The next criterion of the Energy Drink Comparison scrutinizes how you store, carry and enjoy that daily energy boost in consideration of time and effort needed. This criterion is the convenience factor.

Canned energy drinks are like many other beverages, they need to be refrigerated even for the smallest enjoyment. The 5-Hour Energy shot was created knowing that a refrigerator is a convenience most don’t enjoy in their vehicles, on the construction site or in the libraries of our universities. The energy shot taste is enjoyable both ice cold or room temperature. Which means it’ll be great even after sitting in your briefcase during a meeting, your Harley’s saddle bag during the rally and even in your pocket next to the spare change.

We don’t need to argue that the shot can be placed in much smaller locations than the 16 oz. canned drink – that’s noticeable to most. The big factor here is your time, the time taken for consumption. Simply put, it’s 2 versus 16 ounces. Energy shots can be sipped over time or taken straight down the hatch in seconds. For that fizzy, canned competitor, well 16 oz. is much smaller than the 32-ouncers found in the same convenience store cooler, but you’re still going to need some time to finish it. Perhaps you enjoy having a drink over a shot. So you drink some now and want to save some for later, right? Chances are that can let out a carbonated hiss when you popped the top and unfortunately you don’t have a screw-on cap like the shot - just another approach to help you enjoy that energy boost now and later from 5-Hour Energy.

The chart below provides a breakdown of Round 2. The shot’s size, packaging and drink formula are examined to create an energy beverage that is convenient and portable for the consumer. Again, as seen in Round 1, less is definitely more.

Round 1: Energy Drink Comparison: Shot vs. Can – Compare Ingredients

Friday, May 29, 2009
Energy shots and drinks are only as effective as the stuff that’s in them. So in the first round of the Energy Drink Comparison: Shot vs. Can the ingredients of the shot and canned drink are scrutinized.

In the case of some ingredients, less is definitely more. In the 5-Hour Energy shot there are only 4 calories as opposed to the 200 or more in the 16 oz. can. Sugar and the resulting carbohydrates are huge contributors to these calories and in a leading canned drink there are plenty. 5-Hour Energy has zero sugars and zero carbs. The chart below compares the contents of the two contenders.

In the case of other ingredients, more is definitely better. While the canned energy drink contains a mere smattering of vitamins, 5-Hour Energy contains a much more robust blend. While the sugary energy drink may provide a quick spike and possible crash, 5-Hour Energy’s B-vitamin barrage offers a steadier feeling of alertness.

Let’s consider what you can expect after a year of consuming either the shot or can. On average Americans grab five energy boosting beverages a week, that’s about 260 drinks during the year. Also keep in mind that there are 3,500 calories in one pound of fat.

With zero sugar and zero carbs, choosing the 5-Hour Energy shot for one year will not even add 1/3 of a pound to your waistline. And don’t forget all that extra energy void of herbal stimulants and the dreaded crash*. By comparison, consuming those five 16-ounce canned drinks each week throughout the course of a year will add 26,000 calories or roughly 7.5 pounds to your waistline, the majority of calories coming from sugar.

Round one is over. Who is the winner? Try 5-Hour Energy and compare it to your current energy drink. Then you can be the judge.
