Bringing the Competition of Racing to 5-Hour Energy Fans

At 5-Hour Energy we live for competition. So creating the 5-Hour Energy race team and pushing the limits on the nation's superspeedways and short tracks just seemed to work. But one thing we like more than competition is our fan base, and keeping you at your best performance in your day-to-day competition at work, school, gym or around home.

Not everyone is a fan of NASCAR, but almost everyone enjoys a little competition, especially with huge payouts and little effort needed. So to bring together two of our favorite things we're hosting two 5-Hour Energy Racing contests.

The Racing Scavenger Hunt Contest will have you searching for 15 race car tokens. Each token is accompanied by a code number and a code word that they keep track of on the contest entry form. When all the tokens are found, submit your form and you'll be entered to win a one-year supply of 5-Hour Energy shots. But you need to shift it into high-gear because the contest closes on April 30, 2010.

Our team hid the tokens across the 5-Hour Energy site, including other places like the Blog, Facebook Fan Page, Twitter and more. We are confident you shouldn't need much help, but if it gets to be too tough or time is running out, tweet the 5HourEnergyGuy for some assistance.

Like the races, personal endurance in the long haul will get them to victory lane, and the Weekly Race Results Contest is a determination of that stamina. Contestants will have to list the position that the #66 5-Hour Energy car finished in for every week through Oct. 23.

If you have the staying power to last the 2010 season and the focus to find and enter the correct finishing positions, you'll be entered to win the End of the Season Race Package for Two to the final race in Miami, including airfare and hotel! The catch is that race results need to be entered within two weeks of the race completion, after which that race's contest entry period will be closed.

One Demanding Quiz Pays Out One Bountiful Prize

In February the 5-Hour Energy team pushed fans to reach their fitness goals in the 5-Hour Energy Workout Challenge. The task was for the fans to add a 5-Hour Energy shot to their workouts and change that negative attitude of "Don't-Want-To" into a goal-smashing "Can't-Stop-Me" demeanor.

As a first step, fans were invited to take the Energy Drink Quiz for a warm up fitness test of sorts for a chance to win a one-year supply of their favorite shot. Unsurprisingly, the competition was strong even with a demanding quiz. Many tried, but only a few had the perseverance and focus to ace the quiz. A final winner was picked from those few who conquered the quiz, and to the victor goes the spoils of 5-Hour Energy.

We congratulate Steve Herbert of Easley, SC on his stellar test taking skills and energy drink knowledge! Steve was able to ignore the distractions and stay alert to finish on time, which wasn't easy when distractions at the gym like a fit trainer or a phone call try to throw a regimen off course.

The Workout Challenge was just the first contest of 2010. Opportunities to earn free shots this year are plentiful as our team has a great lineup of challenges to test the mettle of our fans. Right now our 5-Hour Energy Racing fans are searching for the racecar tokens and codes in the 5-Hour Racing Scavenger Hunt. They are also tracking each our car's performance in the Weekly Results Contest for a chance to win a NASCAR weekend getaway package for the final race of the season in Miami!

Clear Your Mind, Boost Your Energy

Meditation, it's not a very lively word, now is it? The process of sitting idle, eyes closed in a trance-like state, slowed breathing, projecting thoughts and releasing the mind doesn't seem to fit the bill when it comes to preparing for a workout, a final exam or just another day in the big rig or cubicle. But many studies have supported using the tranquil breathing-and-focusing technique as a means to de-stress and perk up the energy.

Learning to meditate is fairly simple and the time in which to mediate can be a short as 3 minutes so you can use it almost anytime during your day to clear your mind and boost your energy.

The problem is to first find a quite space where you can be left alone with zero distractions, which we all know that our places of rest like a dorm room or den even have constant noises and disturbances. Once you have a placed picked, you can begin.

First, sit in a comfortable position. This doesn't have to be cross-legged like you think, just any seated position that you'll be the most relaxed in.

Next, close your eyes and take 10 slow, deep, controlled breaths and clear your mind as much as possible.

Focus on an image that is soothing and relaxing. Picture something from nature like a deserted island or quiet meadow, or anything that immediately gives you a hushed state of mind.

Think deeply about that image. What do you see? What do you hear? How does it make you feel?

If at anytime you have a thought that isn't part of your image enter your mind, try your best to address it as something that can wait and push it behind the image you are seeing on the backs of your eyelids.

Once you feel calmed, visualize an energy source entering your body and recharging your battery. Feel it at the tips of your fingers down to your toes. Do this for a couple of minutes.

When you are ready, slowly open your eyes, stand up slowly and take one last deep breath.

You are now ready to attack the rest of the day with heighted energy levels and with an alert and focused aim.

5-Hour Energy Racing Lays Rubber with a New Site

The 5-Hour Energy Racing team is rolling out its new site - a sleek, tweaked and ready rock machine that will keep racing fans' pistons pumping and exhausts roaring through the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Season with racing news, driver updates, race weekend photos, fan contests and big prizes.

5-Hour Energy Racing is now in its third Nationwide season with young pilot, Steve Wallace at the helm of the new #66 Toyota Camry, and the crew felt that it was only proper to complement the new car with a fresh, high-energy team site that will reward fans.

A Few Steps to Prep for a Solid Workout

There's a reason it's called a gym routine; steps are taken in an organized fashion repeatedly over time. But when we get into a routine it becomes very difficult not to get frustrated when slight diversions happen. To help you avoid some of those little aggravations, we've put together a few steps to add to your routine that will prep you for any Workout Challenge.

Play List - Music not only moves your body, but also the soul. When you've got a feel-good attitude going, you can enjoy doing pretty much anything. Put together a list of your music that will get your thoughts ready to attack this workout and push you through the sweat and pain.

Fuel Up - You already know how important a diet is towards your fitness goals, and there are great foods out there that you can grab on the go for a quick burst of energy at the gym. But there are also many that are Energy-Erasing Foods. Pack a pre-workout snack that will carry through the regimen but not fill you up.

Check Your Gear - Nothing is worse than getting to the locker-room ready do some serious work and finding that you've left your shorts at home or you've got a broken shoelace. Check and maintain your gear regularly to avoid any mishaps at the gym or diversions from your routine.

Water - Make sure you have your water or a source of hydration available throughout the workout. Temperatures and exertion levels can zap your body of water in no time. Staying hydrated helps prevent cramping and cools you down to keep you charging forward.

Warm-up and Stretch - Sitting idle in your cube doesn't keep your muscles loose and limber. Before pounding on your pecks or running the 5K, take a preventive measure and just a little bit of time to warm up, get the blood flowing, and stretch out the stresses of the day.

It appears as though 5-Hour Energy's latest contest, the Workout Challenge, may be too tough for some of the fans. So to help you have a chance at winning the 1-year supply of 5-Hour Energy shots, we are going to make you a deal at some free answers.

First of all, the demands of the quiz shouldn't be a surprise; it's a challenge, not a cakewalk. It's all things that 5-Hour Energy fans love, a little challenge to bolster your competitive side, and the chance at drinking 5-Hour Energy shots for a year to motivate you to study!

Wallace Keeps the Show Going in Vegas

Steve Wallace gave the NASCAR Nationwide Series fans another Top-10 performance in the desert and kept the 2010 show going for 5-Hour Energy Racing and its new Toyota Camry.

The 22 year-old Nationwide Series dark horse battled a tight race car for most of the 300 miles at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before finishing in tenth place on the 1.5 mile oval. Wallace stated that the car had some big horsepower, but having slight issues in turning the car made it difficult to hold the competition off in the corners.

Wallace's persistent execution on the track has made him one of only four drivers who head into the Nationwide off-weeks with a top-ten finish. Following Saturday’s race, Wallace climbed one spot—to sixth—in the championship standings. He's currently a single point behind reigning Nationwide champion and Sprint Cup favorite Kyle Busch.

The Nationwide drivers will enjoy a few weeks off before heading to one of the fans' favorite tracks, the circus that is Bristol Motor Speedway. Last season when 5-Hour Energy returned to Bristol, the team chalked up an impressive top-10. We'll see if Wallace can stay alert and avoid what is sure to a rubber burning, brake smoking, metal crushing race day on March 20.

Top-10 Again for 5-Hour Energy at Fontana

5-Hour Energy Racing driver Steve Wallace brought home another impressive performance in the #66 Toyota Camry with a sixth place finish in the Stater Bros. 300.

This week's Top-10 at Auto Club Speedway is Wallace's second consecutive for the season and keeps the momentum going for the 5-Hour Energy crew.

Wallace started the weekend with a fast car. He posted the fourth fast time of 41.222 seconds (174.664 MPH) during Friday's practice and was one of only five that to make it into the top-ten in both of the day's practice sessions. When it came to qualifying, Wallace got the 5-Hour Energy car within striking position for the big show with a 12-place grid position.

After the two hours and six minutes of racing, 12 lead changes ,and four cautions, Wallace had moved up to sixth place just behind pole-sitter Joey Logano.

Wallace and his 5-Hour Energy Camry are headed to Sin City for the Sam's Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway sitting solid in seventh for the NASCAR Nationwide championship. You can catch the race on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. EST.

5-Hour Energy Racing Starts 2010 Season with Top-10 at Daytona

5-Hour Energy Racing driver Steve Wallace took the new #66 Toyota Camry to a Top-10 finish in the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.

As the first race of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series, Wallace was confident in the team's switch from the Impala SS of 2009 to the new 5-Hour Energy-inspired Toyota Camry. Along with the new car for this season, the fresh 5-Hour Energy Racing crew chief, Scott McDougall, helped Wallace battle his way to a great finish to the first race of what will be an exciting series.

Showing that same perseverance form the 2009 season, Wallace maneuvered through the setbacks and brought Rusty Wallace Racing a tenth-place finish at the world's premier oval track. Together McDougall and Wallace kept the 5-Hour Energy car at the front of the pack after narrowly escaping three separate accidents and sustaining minor damage in one. Even with all the obstacles throughout the race, Wallace lead three laps, posted four fastest lap times and made 135 passes.

Wallace said after the race that the #66 5-Hour Energy Camry was a bit loose. This coupled with the damage made it difficult to grab that vital draft and make a run at the lead.

Wallace also noted that the 10th place finish, although a first for the team at Daytona, is just not enough. The team wrapped up the 2009 season with a strong and persistent performance and they hope to carry that forward through 2010 with more wins and more awards.

Wallace and the 5-Hour Energy crew are making the long haul from Florida to Auto Club Speedway in Southern California for the Stater Bros. 300 on February 20.

5-Hour Energy Racing Awaits the Green Flag on the 2010 Season

5-Hour Energy Racing is back on the grid and ready for more 200+ mph action for 2010 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

After the checkered flag dropped on the 2009 Nationwide season back in November, the 5-Hour Energy Racing crew has been working meticulously to get the new #66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry primed and ready to rock in the season starter at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 13 in the DRIVE4COPD 300.

Driver Steve Wallace, son of NASCAR great and team owner Rusty Wallace, will enter his third season with 5-Hour Energy Racing. In 2009 fans watched 22 year-old Wallace push the #66 to a 7th place championship finish. Wallace received a number of accolades during the '09 season including a "Most Improved Driver" award and being part of the only team to have both drivers finish in the Top-10.

5 Energy-Erasing Foods

We do what we can to avoid that Siesta Syndrome by thinking critically about what we eat at lunch and choosing healthy foods. But do we realize that some of our wholesome choices could be contributing to our afternoon cubical coma. Here are five healthful, but energy-stealing foods that you may want to remove from your dieting lunch.

Turkey - Ever wonder why we love to snooze after that Thanksgiving feast? It may be from overstuffing, but it can also be blamed on the star of the show, the gobble. Turkey is high in Tryptophan, which is an essential amino acid. Tryptophan increases the levels of the serotonin and melatonin in the brain, which calm our minds and help us doze off.

Beans - Most athletes will gladly put down the can of beans for a source of protein and Vitamin B, but beans are also a good source of Magnesium, which has calming affects, and turkey's sleep-tripping Tryptophan.

Soy Products - Tofu, soy nuts, and soy milk are great sources of protein, but also rank high on the Glycemic Index. High glycemic foods are digested and absorbed quickly, and this quick absorption causes rapid fluctuations in our blood sugar and causes a crash effect. Low glycmic foods are slowing digested and absorbed resulting in little fluctuation and have proven benefits for health and daily energy.

Dairy Products - A glass of warm milk contains has all the sleepy fun of turkey and beans, with Tryptophan and Magnesium, and it puts crying babes to sleep with ease. The same is true for cottage cheese, yogurt and other dairy products.

Nuts - Another great source of protein, nuts are ranked fairly low on the Glycemic Index, but they have that same secret sleep ingredient Tryptophan.

Time is Almost Up on the 5-Hour Energy Final Exam

For those who are familiar with the not having enough time to finish an exam, this is your fair warning. The 5-Hour Energy Energy Drinks 401 - Advanced Studies Final Exam will close on January 29. Tests need to be turned in no later than that and a winner will be announced shortly after.

If you have not sat down and taken it yet, you should know the basics before getting started. This exam is to test your knowledge of energy drinks. You are competing against devoted and alert 5-Hour Energy fans for a chance to win a one-year supply of 5-Hour Energy shots and possibly a spot on an upcoming 5-Hour Energy TV commercial.

The 5-Hour Energy Exam is reminiscent of those dreaded college finals but with more fun and no college tuition at stake. As for any exam, you the test taker will need to prepare ahead of time using the Energy Drinks 401 Syllabus and class notes. After sufficient cramming, you'll have the same strenuous tasks of sitting in front of a hypnotizing scantron sheet to scribble in multiple-choice answers while trying to avoid distractions like text messages from friends, broken pencils and classmates passing notes.

The Workout Challenge is aimed at Men’s Fitness subscribers, who already have a stronger drive to go farther, and 5-Hour Energy Fans, who know exactly what the world’s best selling energy shot can do for their day. Just like any good regimen, there needs to be some preliminary warm-up and stretching before getting the heart pumping and sweat dripping. The energy drink and energy shot markets have seen explosive growth in just a few years, and with so many options on one shelf, the efforts for marketers to distinguish their copy cat energy drink and shots from the competition has become more about solving it all and not so much on providing a simple boost of energy.

For many of these new entrants, their strategies to sell include making claims that their drink can give you more than its neighbors in the convenience store cooler. For example, energy Drink 1 will give you A and B, but next to it energy Drink 2 says it will give you A, B and C. It would just make sense that Drink 2 is better, right?

It's come to a point where labels tell you that the drink will pretty much solve it all. You can now find energy drinks that allege improvement in learning, sexual performance, enhanced mood, muscle recovery, coordination, fat burning, motivation and more in just one can. Somehow you just stumbled upon a miracle sent from the energy drink gods right there next to the soda and water at your small town gas station and it will do everything but walk your dog.

The same was true in the late 18th and early 19th centuries when patent medicines, also called nostrums, offered a solution for just about every ailment known to mankind. These so-called remedies were high in hype and low in results. Many contained alcohol or cocaine to give the illusion of “doing something” but served mainly to fool gullible consumers and line the pockets of their promoters.

The emergence of more competitors in the energy drink and shot markets mean more unsubstantiated claims designed to sway your purchase decision. That may have worked back in the patent medicine era, but today’s consumers are much more savvy. You're already able to make an educated energy drink comparison and filter out the puffery to choose what you feel is the best choice. So there shouldn't be a need to trick you into a purchase. We would all like a cure-all in a can that could improve our overall wellbeing instantly, but it only exists in the imaginations of unscrupulous marketers.

A Plan to Persevere in 2010

It's the second week of a new decade and like the many, many Januarys before, the number of gym memberships will be up. Motivation will be strong, sweat will drip and we'll be feeling good. As a matter of course the end of February will be upon us and participant numbers at Zumba and fitness boot camp classes will diminish, treadmills will stand idle and another New Year's resolution to be more active will be deflated.

But this isn't the case just at the gym. We make an overflow of resolutions like saving more cash, volunteering within the community or picking up a new book, just to fall into December without accomplishing any of them. It only makes sense that we all want to do something that will improve our lives, but the number of resolutions going unanswered are abundant because we all have our own little voice that tells us, "it's ok not to do it today" and "go ahead and give in; you can make up for it down the road."

It doesn't matter what your resolutions are for 2010, it's the start of your new decade and sitting there reading this today, you are driven to achieve them. So before ambition escapes, take these few extra steps for planning and make sure you can follow through on at least one goal for 2010.

Grab a pen and paper, open a blank word processing document or have a voice recorder ready. You are going to record all of these so that you have a way to go back and check your progress and stay on course.

Identify your overall goal - You have an idea of what you want to achieve, but the more specific you can be, the better. Want to have enough money for a vacation next summer? Set a dollar amount. Want to maintain a healthy weight? Then you need to identify what that healthy weight is. It should be written in pounds, kilos, body fat percentage, BMI, etc. and not "I want to weigh what I did at 21."

List three or more objectives - Think of these as rungs on a ladder that will help you climb to the top and to your goal. Each objective should have a realistic, measurable feat and a date for when you want to reach it. For finishing a new novel, your objectives could be to read a set number of pages by the end of every month. Writing out each objective keeps your progress on track and breaks the big picture in your mind down into achievable bits. This will also help keep your satisfaction and that high of accomplishment up as you meet and exceed your set objectives.

Accountability and support - We all need a little help and a little extra discipline at times. This is where you're going to pick a few people who will keep you in line and provide a little boost when you stray from the path. Friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors, they all can help you conquer your resolution. Share with them what you would like to achieve and they'll be more than happy to see you succeed.

Have a pat on the back ready - You're going to be committed to this resolution and looking forward to that feeling of achievement when it's completed, but that doesn't mean a little payment during the process is out of the question. Choose something that you will reward yourself with for achieving each objective you listed in number three. Your hard work needs to be rewarded.

Ignore the rest - It's far too easy to compare yourself to those who surround you and lose that clout that you have when on your own. Remind yourself that these are your goals, your journey. Believe it or not, many of those who we are intimidated by would like to see us achieve our goals too. Use them as a motivator, not a competitor.

Begin - Now that the planning is done, close your eyes and look at the back of your eyelids. Envision yourself on December 31, 2010. It's complete, you've done it. You're proud, confident and ready to lay the first brick of a 2011 resolution that you know you can meet. Whenever you feel like your resolution is slipping, just close your eyes and see the finish line.

It all started with the unveiling of the new 5-HourEnergy.com at the beginning of the year which laid the foundation for a new, interactive 5-Hour platform that was fan-focused and fan-driven. The biggest and most popular addition was the 5-Hour Fan Zone, a place for fans to share their stories, submit photos and compete in contests.

We quickly found that 5-Hour fans are extremely competitive and will take any chance available to beat out contenders in a contest for free shots. The first contest was to name the 5-Hour Energy guy and participation was astounding. The creativity of our fans encouraged us to turn to you for fresh, meaningful promotion ideas and we are doing just that with the current College Commercial Contest in which we want you to pitch the next 5-Hour Energy commercial.

The interaction with our fans showed that many fans had a devotion to include a 5-Hour Energy shot into their daily routine. We also found out through photo and story submissions, tweets to the 5-Hour Energy Guy and posts on the 5-Hour Energy Facebook page that some fans were the perfect icons for the shot. With that we created the Featured Fan contest and went on a search for the top 5-Hour Energy fans who are now showcased in the Featured Fan section of the Fan Zone with their own profiles and stories.

This past year wasn’t just about putting 12-packs of 5-Hour Energy shots in the pockets of fans. In the second half of the year we launched two new flavors, grape and pomegranate, which have gotten great reviews. In news the 5-Hour Energy Racing Team entered the NASCAR Nationwide Series for a second season with two cars and two young wheelmen. His teammate in the No. 62 Extra Strength 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet, Brendan Gaughan, was in competition for Rookie of the Year and sealed a 9th place finish for the year. Checkered Flag Drops on 5-Hour Energy Racing's 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Season

There has been a common theme to the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series for the 5-Hour Energy Racing team, consistency. Drivers Steve Wallace and Brendan Gaughan have climbed the ranks with persistence and steadiness when traffic was heavy and their cars were struggling. Their alert, dependable and sometimes edgy driving took both to celebrated top-10 championship series finishes, which was unmatched by another other series team, and broke personal records.

The 2009 Nationwide Series concluded at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 21. After 300 miles Wallace chalked up another great driving feat as he took his No. 66 Chevrolet Impala SS from a hopeful 15th position to a striking 8th-place finish, a performance unrivalled by any non-Cup Series driver. It was Wallace's second-straight top-10 finish, adding a fifth top-20 finish in his 5-Hour Energy machine for the 2009 season, and secured the 7th-place ranking in the final Nationwide standings.

Wallace's teammate and pilot of the No. 62 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Chevrolet, Gaughan, kept with the theme of the season and finished just one position back from where he began the race. Gaughan's consistency clutched the 9th-place position in the final season rankings and wrapped up the 2009 season with 12 top-20 finishes.

5-Hour Energy Racing has been more than impressed with the young and talented wheelmen and the affiliation with Rusty Wallace Racing. The two teams announced back in August plans to continue their partnership into the 2010 season, with 5-Hour Energy as the primary sponsor of Wallace's no. 66 car. RWR makes the change from Chevrolet to the new Toyota Camry, plenty of 5-Hour Energy shots will be right there, keeping the pit crew energized, the drivers focused, and the anticipation high for the green flag drop at Daytona International Speedway and opening of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship.
