The 5-hour ENERGY® presented by Kenda Racing Team enjoyed their first time competing at the Amgen Tour of California. The eight-day race started off well with two 5-hour ENERGY® riders finishing on the podium after Stage 1 in Escondido. Team captain, Francisco “Paco” Mancebo (ESP) finished second on the stage, and Jim Stemper (USA) was awarded the Amgen Breakaway from Cancer® Most Courageous Rider Jersey.
"In the last four years with this team, I’ve been making the transition to a road rider. I pride myself on being a great teammate right now. I know I can ride hard for the entire day," said Stemper.
The 5-hour ENERGY® presented by Kenda Racing Team was the top UCI Continental Team in California, finishing fourth overall in the Team Classification, and ahead of six UCI World Tour ProTeams in the field. Mancebo finished seventh overall in the individual G.C. The 5-hour ENERGY® squad worked hard on every stage, having seven out of their eight riders complete the race.
Next up is the Volkswagen USA Cycling Professional Road and Time Trial National Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. All nine Americans on the 5-hour ENERGY® team will participate in the event over Memorial Day weekend. The roster includes:
- Nate English (Berkeley, Calif.)
- Gregg Brandt (Winona, Minn.)
- Max Jenkins (Citrus Heights, Calif.)
- Shawn Milne (Beverly, Mass.)
- Christian Parrett (Macon, Ga.)
- Taylor Shelden (Louisville, Colo.)
- James Stemper (Jackson, Wyo.)
- Bobby Sweeting (Asheville, N.C.)
