Loudon Race Report
Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 13th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 21st and immediately told his crew his car would not turn in the corners but snapped loose exiting. By lap 35 Bowyer had climbed to 14th. He remained there until about lap 190 when he broke into the top 10. Bowyer avoided trouble in the final third of the race and held his position. When the No. 15 team pitted for service on lap 260 it was discovered that the 5-hour ENERGY Toyota had a rear tire going down. Bowyer tried everything to maintain his position in the closing laps, but a late caution allowed the team to return to pit road for tires prior to the green-white-checker finish. Bowyer restarted 25th and raced his way to a 13th place finish in the final laps. Bowyer’s teammate Brian Vickers gave MWR its second victory of the season and seventh overall on Sunday. BOWYER: “That was a tough day. We didn’t qualify as well as we would have liked and it was so tough to pass and gain track position throughout the day that it really put us in a tough spot. We worked on it and keep at it, but we struggled to get a handle on it for the better part of the day. I’m proud of my 5-hour ENERGY team – they fought all day and we still came home with a top-15. I really thought we would be up there fighting it out for the win today, but it just wasn’t our day. That said, it was a huge day for our teammate Brian Vickers and all the guys on the Aaron’s team. I’m so happy for all those guys. They are a great group of guys that work hard every week to make that car great whoever is behind the wheel. It’s a big win for them and I couldn’t be happier for them.”
